Paul Herzel Pompeian Bronze Bucking Horse Sculpture Ash/Trinket Tray Reproduction

_C024

The piece we offer here is as close as you can get to the single original sculpture (that now resides in a museum in Russia) by Paul Herzel! Paul Herzel bronze clad sculpture of a cowboy on a bucking horse on ashtray, aptly named, "Bucking Horse". Besides being a legitimate work of art, this lively sculpture has uses beyond its original use as ashtray. We envision it as the perfect gift for the Western collector, American sculpture collector or collector of vintage tobacco. It is the perfect desk art holding business cards or clips, man cave art, or on the gentleman's dresser as a trinket tray.

The Bucking Horse sculpture is quite realistic with fluid movement and was one of his most popular sculptures. It is in fine condition and retains most of it's original paint. This sculpture shows a "copyright Paul Herzel" mark on the back.

Paul Herzel was a noted artist of German decent; born in Silesia, Germany in 1876 and passed in New York City in 1956 at the age of 79 years young. Mr. Herzel began creating paintings & sculpture shortly after his family immigrated to Missouri when he was seven years old. He studied at the St. Louis Art School in his early twenties. It is in St Louis where he first became interested in the artistic study of animals at the Forest Park Zoo. He went to Europe in his late twenties to study classic museum works & upon returning, he studied sculpture at the Beaux Art Institute of Design in New York. It is said that he worked for the Central Park Zoo for a while, painting backdrops for cages. Even now, 2 of his paintings are owned by the New York Zoological Society. Many of his sculptural designs were sold to the Pompeian Bronze Company where they created bookends, ashtrays, lamp bases and statuettes. Herzel is known primarily for his sculpture, although he completed hundreds of sketches and paintings throughout his career.
